Summary
SubtitleDown works without an account. If you create one, we keep only what is needed to run it (below). We do not sell or share personal data, and we never track which videos you watch or which subtitles you download.
What the extension accesses
On YouTube, the extension reads the video’s caption list and the captions its player loads, so it can offer them for download.
On sites where you switch on Universal capture, it reads responses that look like subtitle files or streaming playlists. You grant this per site and can revoke it at any time.
What is stored
Your settings (default format, file-name pattern, ASS font) are stored with Chrome’s storage API on your device.
Captured subtitles are kept in temporary session storage and are deleted when you close the tab or the browser.
Translation
Translation uses Chrome’s on-device Translator API. Subtitle text is not sent to us or to a third-party translation service.
This website
The online converter processes files in your browser; nothing is uploaded. This site does not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Accounts and payments
An account is optional. If you create one, we store your name, email address, sign-in method and plan. Accounts are run on Google Firebase (Authentication and Firestore).
Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never reach us; we only keep the Stripe customer id and the state of your plan.
When you sign the extension in, it stores your name, email and plan on your device to show them in its popup.
You can delete your account at any time from the dashboard. This cancels any subscription and deletes your profile and plan data. Stripe keeps payment records as required by law.
